HUMIRIT ng temporary restraining order (TRO) ang grupo ng mga abogado laban sa nilagdaan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

Sa pamamagitan ng e-filing ay inihain ang petisyon ng grupo sa pangunguna ni Atty. Howard Calleja sa Supreme Court.

Bukod sa TRO, hiniling din ng mga ito ang writ of preliminary injuction para mapigilan ang implementasyon ng naturang batas sa Hulyo 19.

Nais din ng mga petitioner na mapawalang bisa ang 10 sections ng naturang batas dahil may mga nilalabag umano ito sa karapatang pantao.

Samantala, ikinatuwa ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) ang paglagda ni Pangulong Duterte sa anti-terror bill.

“We are elated to know that the President has signed into law the Anti-terrorism Bill that capacitates government security forces that cause inordinate sufferings of our people,” pahayag ng AFP.

“We now have a powerful statute that provides law enforcement agencies the legal wherewithal to protect and defend our people,” pahayag ni Mgen Edgard Arevalo, tagapagsalita ng Hukbong Sandatahan.

“The AFP Leadership under General Santos, Jr. thanks the Commander-in-Chief for his resolve in putting public security and general welfare his primordial consideration in enacting the law that specifically targets terrorists,” ani Arevalo.

Tiniyak naman ni National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon Jr. na walang dapat ikabahala sa Anti-Terrorism Act dahil mga terorista ang target ng batas at hindi mga militante o nagpoprotesta.

Kaugnay nito, nakatakdang magpulong ang Anti-Terrorism Council (ATC) para talakayin at bumuo ng Implementing Rules and Regulation ng bagong batas na kanilang isusumite sa Kongreso. (JESSE KABEL)
