MARIING kinondena ni Rizal 2nd District Congressman Fidel Nograles ang patuloy na pagtaas ng bilang ng karahasan sa mga law professional matapos patayin ang isang abogado sa Palawan at isang Judge sa lungsod ng Maynila.

Ayon kay Nograles, si Atty. Jay Magcamit ang ika-52 abogado na napatay mula 2016 hanggang sa taong ito matapos itong tambangan sa Narra, Palawan noong Nobyembre 17, 2020 habang patungo sa kanyang hearing sa bayan ng Quezon.

Noong Nobyembre 11, 2020 ay pinatay naman sa kanyang tanggapan si Manila Regional Trial Court (RTC) Judge Ma. Theresa Abadilla ng kanyang clerk of court.

“I denounce these latest acts of violence against workers of the justice sector. I urge our authorities to investigate these killings and resolve all pending investigations so that the victims and their families can have justice,” ani Nograles.

Noong 2019 ay inihain ni Nograles ang House Resolution (HR) 185 para imbestigahan ang pagpatay sa mga law practitioner sa bansa dahil parami nang parami ang biktima.

“The said resolution calls for the creation by the Department of Justice and Philippine National Police, in close coordination with the Commission on Human Rights and Integrated Bar of the Philippines, of a special task force to enforce legal action against perpetrators of crimes against workers in the legal sector,” anang mambabatas.

Sinabi ni Nograles na ang mga ganitong uri ng pag-atake sa abogado, prosecutors at judges ay malaking epekto sa sistema ng hustisya ng bansa kaya dapat aniya itong pigilan.

“Mananaig ang takot kung makikita ng mga kababayan natin na mismong ang mga taong lumalaban para maitaguyod ang karapatan ng iba ay walang habas na pinapaslang,” ani Nograles.

“We need to protect our law workers to reassure our people that they, too, will be safe if they wish to fight for their rights within our justice system,” dagdag pa nito.

Dahil dito, umapela ang mambabatas sa Department of Justice (DOJ) at Philippine National Police (PNP) na bilisan ang ginagawang imbestigasyon sa pagpatay sa mga law practitioner.

“Everyday that passes that these cases remain unresolved is a mark against the government. Let us not allow the tally to reach the point where the people lose faith in the government’s ability to protect its citizens,” ayon pa kay Nograles. (BERNARD TAGUINOD)
