INAPRUBAHAN ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Board ang ‘special incentives’ na ipagkakaloob kay gymnast Carlos Yulo.
Halagang P750,000 ang tatanggapin ni Yulo bunga nang kanyang double-medal performance sa 2021 World Artistic Gymnatics Championships sa Kitakyushu General Gymnasium sa Japan, kung saan P500,0008 para sa gold at P250,000 naman sa silver.
Si Yulo ang unang Filipino multi-medalled gymnast sa nasabing torneo, makaraang kunin ang gold medal sa men’s vault sa iskor na 14.916 points, laban kay Japanese Yonekura Hidenobu (14.866 points).
Tumapos naman siyang runner-up sa men’s parallel bars.
Bago inaprubahan ang insentibo, inesplika ni PSC chairman William Ramirez ang provisions at technical conditiong nakasaad sa Republic Act No. 10699 o ang National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act, kung saan hindi nito sakop ang taunang world championship ng gymnastics.
Sa kabila nito, kinikilala ng ahensya ang panalo ni Yulo para pagkaloob ng insentibo.
“He (Yulo) has bounced back and showed us all that he is still our world champion in gymnastics,” wika ni Ramirez.
Bigo si Yulo na maidepensa ang kanyang titulo sa men’s floor exercise finals.
Noong 2019, pinagkalooban din ng PSC si Yulo ng P500,000 incentives nang magwagi ng multiple medals sa SEA Games at P500,000 bilang qualifying incentives sa Tokyo Olympics.
“Every incentive that he receives is well-deserved. By sheer will and determination, Caloy has created his own niche in the halls of Philippine Sports history. Caloy is truly an inspiration to our youth and Filipino athletes,” dagdag ni Ramirez.
