POSIBLENG makompromisong muli ang integridad sa resulta ng nalalapit na May 2022 general elections bunsod ng napaulat na hacking nito lamang nakaraang Sabado sa main server ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) kung saan matatagpuan ang mga sensitibong impormasyon.

Pag-amin ni Director James Jimenez na tumatayong tagapagsalita ng Comelec, nagsasagawa na sila ng isang malalimang imbestigasyon sa umano’y data breach sa kanilang server kung saan nakalagak ang mga detalye tulad ng Comelec network diagram, mga IP addresses, talaan ng mga authorized users, domain admin credentials, mga passwords, domain policies, access sa ballot handling dashboard at QR codes ng bureau of canvassers na may login and password.

Gayunpaman, nilinaw ni Jimenez na wala pa naman lamang sensitibong impormasyon ang kanilang server na aniya’y nasa proseso pa ng pagkumpleto.

Sa eksklusibong ulat naman ng Manila Bulletin, kasama umano sa mga nakuhang impormasyon ng mga hindi pa nakikilalang hackers ang username at personal identification numbers na kalakip ng bawat vote counting machines.

“The fact, however, is that such information still does not exist in Comelec systems simply because the configuration files – which includes usernames and PINs – have not yet been completed,” ayon pa kay Jimenez.

“This calls into question the veracity of the hacking claim,” dagdag pa nito.

Kasunod nito, tiniyak ni Jimenez na patuloy na tumutugon ang Comelec sa Data Privacy act at patuloy ang kooperasyon sa National Privacy Commission.

“Considering that “news” like this could potentially damage the credibility of the elections, the Comelec stands ready to pursue all available remedies against those who, either deliberately or otherwise, undermine the integrity of the electoral process,” dagdag pa ni Jimenez.

Sa Kamara, nagpahayag ng pangamba ang hanay ng mga militanteng kongresista sa insidenteng anila’y posibleng pahiwatig ng magaganap na dayaan sa halalan.

Giit ni House deputy minority leader Carlos Zarate, hindi sapat ang imbestigasyong isinasagawa ng Comelec, kasabay ng paghimok sa mga kapwa mambabatas na magpatawag ng isang congressional investigation sa tinawag niyang “Comeleaks.”

“Just like the Omicron COVID-19 variant, this is no simple matter to be dismissed just as easily. There are many questions that need to be answered as well as the technical aspect of the supposed hacking and the extent of the data that the hackers were able to compromise,” ani Zarate.

“Is this ComeLeaks Version 2? This is a deja vu that we dread, if indeed this is true, as this may compromise the integrity of the May 9 national and local elections,” dagdag pa niya.

Para kay Zarate, hindi dapat mabahiran ng alinlangan ang integridad sa resulta ng halalan kung saan nakasalalay ang bansa, kasabay ng babala ng isang malaking problema sakaling magamit sa dayaan ang mga ninakaw na impormasyon sa Comelec server.

“This is a very serious matter and Congress should also investigate this latest hacking incident that allegedly hit Comelec,” aniya.

Samantala, mas piniling magmasid na muna ng kampo ni dating senador Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos na tumatayong pambato ng Partido Federal ng Pilipinas.

“On the alleged Comelec data breach in its servers, we are keenly observing the development on the alleged hacking on the Comelec systems with prudence by awaiting confirmation by those tasked to investigate the incident,” ani Atty. Vic Rodriguez na itinalagang tagapagsalita ni Marcos.

Aniya, hindi angkop ang makisawsaw sa isang isyung hindi pa naman kumpirmado lalo pa’t tinutugunan naman ng Comelec ang pagsasagawa ng isang malalimang imbestigasyon.

“We do not intend to immediately jump into any conclusion that could lead to undermining or discrediting the preparations and the conduct of the May 9 general elections,” dagdag ni Rodriguez, kasabay ng panawagan sa Comelec steering committee at Joint Congressional Oversight Committee para sa isang pulong at bukod na imbestigasyon sa hangaring tiyakin ang isang malinis, tapat at maayos na halalan sa Mayo.
