HINDI naitago ng ilang mambabatas ang pagkabahala na walang mangyayaring pagbabago sa 2025 election kahit mawala ang Smartmatic dahil sa hindi umano magandang record ng lone bidder sa 2025 election automation.

Sa pagdinig ng House committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms, iginiit ni Kabataan party-list Rep. Raoul Manuel sa Commission on Elections (Comelec) na kailangang mag-ingat ang mga ito sa pag-award ng kontrata sa Miru Systems, isang South Korean company at tanging bidder sa nasabing proyekto upang hindi pagdududahan ang resulta ng eleksyon sa 2025.

“There really is a reason for worry. We hope Comelec commits to incorporating all the comments from the resource persons in its decision regarding the post-qualification process. The stakes are high. We cannot downplay these worries,” ani Manuel.

Ginawa ni Manuel ang pahayag matapos kastiguhin ng isa sa mga resource person sa nasabing pagdinig ang Miru dahil sa prototype machine na isinumite sa Comelec para sa kanilang evaluation na paglabag umano sa Republic Act (RA) 9369 o Election Automation Law of 2007.

“This machine is a prototype. It has never been used in any elections. In Congo, they used a DRE machine. In Iraq and in Korea, they used an Optical Mark Reader (OMR) machine. And this combination of OMR and DRE machines has never been tested in any elections,” ani Erice.

Mistulang sa Pilipinas umano susubukan ang prototype machines na paglabag sa nasabing batas at posibleng magdulot ng panganib sa eleksyon.

Maging ang Kontra-Daya ay nababahala dahil sa naging performance umano ng Miru sa Argentina.

“Some NGOs and cybersecurity professionals found vulnerabilities in the Miru machines that made them susceptible to manipulation. They found numerous entry points that bad actors could exploit to manipulate the vote count,”ayon sa kinatawan ng Kontra-Daya sa komite.

Subalit ayon kay Mountain Province Rep. Maximo Jr. Y. Dalog, chairman ng nasabing komite, wala pang garantiya na makukuha ng Miru ang kontrata dahil hindi pa ito nirerekomenda ng Bid and Award Committee sa Comelec en banc.
