UMARANGKADA na ang panukalang batas na bigyan ng emergency power ang Pangulo ng Pilipinas para tugunan ang traffic crisis sa Metro Manila.

Matapos ang mahigit isang taong pagkabinbin, sinimulan nang isalang sa pagdinig ng House committee on Metro Manila development ang House Bill (HB) 4363 o The Traffic Crisis Act of Metro Manila 2022, magbibigay ng emergency power sa Pangulo, na inakda ni Parañaque Rep. Gus Tambunting.

“Drastic solutions are needed if we are to fight this crisis and immediate measures are needed to be undertaken,” ani Tambunting dahil habang tumatagal ay palala nang palala ang trapiko sa Metro Manila.

Iginiit ng mambabatas, ayon sa Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), P3.5 billion ang nawawala sa gobyerno at taumbayan araw-araw dahil sa trapik.

Sa 2023 TomTom Traffic Index report, ang Metro Manila ang nangunguna sa 382 metropolitan sa 55 bansa sa buong mundo na may pinakamalalang problema sa trapik.

“It is the aim of this bill that by giving emergency powers to the President of the Republic of the Philippines, long-term solutions and remedial measures in solving this crisis will immediately be implemented without hindrance and in the shortest time possible,” paliwanag pa ng mambabatas.
