INIHAYAG ng Bureau of Immigration (BI) na nakahanda na sila para sa muling pagbubukas ng Philippine borders para sa foreign tourists.
Sinabi ni Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente, habang wala pang siguradong petsa kung kailan muling bubuksan ang bansa para sa foreign tourists, tiwala siya na malapit na ito.
“There are reports circulating that the country has already reopened its borders to international leisure travelers,” ani Morente. “While we are awaiting the official announcement from the IATF (Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases), we have already put in place the needed manpower and facilities in preparation for this,” dagdag niya.
Kamakailan, inanunsyo ng BI na ang frontline personnel ay ipinagbawal ang pagpa-file ng vacation leaves sa panahon ng holiday season.
Inihayag din ng BI na may 99 bagong Immigration officers ang tinanggap kamakailan para sa pagtatalaga sa BI’s ports sa iba’t ibang lugar sa bansa.
“We have also resumed the use of our e-gates for arriving Filipinos as it would greatly lessen the processing time for our kababayan who will be returning here for Christmas,” ani Morente.
Binanggit pa ni Morente na status quo ang country’s travel restrictions habang naghihintay sa desisyon ng IATF para sa kanilang formal announcement.
Idinagdag pa na ang mga miyembro ng IATF ay nananatili sa kanilang pagtalakay kaugnay sa planong muling pagbubukas ng bansa sa alien visitors at pinaplantsa na ang mga detalye bago ang implementasyon nito.
“Most probably, those coming from Green list countries will be the first ones to be allowed entry,” ayon pa kay Morente.
Ayon kay BI Port Operations Division chief, Atty. Carlos Capulong, may 44 na bansa ang nasa ilalim ng Green list, habang dalawa na kinabibilangan ng Faroe Islands at The Netherlands, ang nananatili sa Red list. (JOEL O. AMONGO)
