PUMANAW na si Cebu 1st District Congressman Raul del Mar na naratay muna sa pagamutan sa hindi malamang karamdaman.

Ito ang kinumpirma ni House Secretary General Bighani Sipin ngunit hindi isiniwalat ang sakit ng 79-anyos na kongresista na naging dahilan para maratay ito sa hindi pinangalanang pagamutan.

Agad namang nagpahatid ng pakikiramay ang buong Kongreso sa pamilya ni Del Mar at inilagay sa half-mast ang bandila ng Pilipinas sa Batasan Pambansa Complex bilang simbolo ng pagdadalamhati.

“We extend our deepest condolences and sympathies to the family of former Deputy Speaker Raul Veloso del Mar. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and his constituencies in the first district of Cebu City, whom he had served well despite his health condition,” ayon naman sa statement ni House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco.

Ayon kay Velasco, kahit may sakit si Del Mar ay patuloy nitong ginagampanan ang kanyang tungkulin at nakikibahagi sa virtual session ng Mababang Kapulungan.

“His contributions to Congress and the nation cannot be overstated, having served a total of nine terms as congressman since 1987. He was a mentor to me and many others. He would have been a deputy speaker under my term,” ayon pa sa mambabatas.

Si Del Mar ang ika-6 miyembro ng 18th Congress na pumanaw mula nang magsimula ang trabaho ng Kongreso noong Agosto 2019.

Kabilang sa mga ito ay sina LPGMA Party-list Rep. Rodolfo Albano, Benguet Rep. Nestor Fongwan, Senior Citizen Party-list Rep. Francisco Datol Jr., Camarines Sur Rep. Marissa Andaya at Sorsogon Rep. Bernaditas Ramos.

Sa mga nabanggit, tanging sina Datols at Ramos ang kumpirmadong namatay dahil sa COVID-19. (BERNARD TAGUINOD)
