KINALAMPAG ni Senador Sonny Angara ang Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) upang magtalaga ng mga dagdag na social welfare attache sa ibayong dagat upang maasikaso ang kapakanan ng mga manggagawang Pinoy.

Ayon kay Angara, araw-araw maraming Overseas Filipino Workers ang inaabuso sa iba’t ibang bansa.

Noong Abril, nilagdaan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang Republic Act 11299 para sa pagtatayo ng  Office for Social Welfare Attache kayat napunan na ang mga posisyon sa  Malaysia/Brunei; Jeddah; Riyadh; Kuwait; Hong Kong; Qatar; at Dubai.

Iginiit ni Angara na dapat punan ang mga posisyon sa Jordan; Lebanon; South Korea; Italy; at United Arab Emirates.

“I have been pushing for the deployment of more Social Welfare Attaches (SWA) in order to provide our OFWs with the assurance that its government cares about them, particularly when they are in distress,” saad ni Angara.

“Every year our OFWs have been remitting billions of dollars back home to their families and this has consistently provided an invaluable boost to our economy. This is why we should be there for them when they need us the most,” dagdag nito.

Noong 2018, umabot sa $32.2 bilyon ang personal remittances ng OFWs habang sa unanh walong buwan ng taon, naitala na ito sa $22 bilyon.
