MISTULANG walang takot sa deadly virus kung magtrabaho ang mga Pinoy nurse sa ibang bansa kahit pa malagay sa panganib ang kanilang buhay.

Para kay Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor, ang works ethics at dedikasyon ng mga Filipino nurse sa abroad ang naglalagay sa kanilang sarili sa panganib sa COVID-19 dahil mas maraming oras ang ginugugol ng mga ito sa mga pinapasukang ospital kahit walang pandemya.

“Filipino nurses in America, for instance, won’t hesitate to perform additional work on weekends and holidays, or to work the graveyard shift, when their co-workers would prefer to be off duty,” ani Defensor.

“This is why they tend to be more exposed to the hazard of catching the coronavirus disease,”dagdag pa ng vice chairman ng House committee on health.

Ginawa ng mambabatas ang pahayag kaugnay sa report na 30% sa mga nurse sa Amerika na nagkaroon ng COVID-19 at namatay ay mga Pilipino, patunay nito ang report ng National Nurses United na sa 245 na namatay sa virus ay 74 ang ating mga kababayan.

“It is not unusual for a Philippine-educated nurse in California or Texas to be on call by two or even three hospitals. They make themselves available when needed, such as when co-workers are suddenly unable to report for work. So they really are more exposed,” ani Defensor.

Dahil sa works ethics na ito ng Filipino nurses hindi lamang sa Amerika kundi sa iba pang bansa ay binibigyan sila ng pabuya at parangal ng kanilang mga employer.

Patunay rito ang American TV talk show host na si Ellen DeGeneres na niregaluhan ang Pinoy nurse sa Los Angeles na si Flor Maylyn Roz ng isang brand new SUV bilang pagkilala sa pagiging frontliner nito laban sa COVID-19.

Maging si British Ambassador to the Philippines Daniel Pruce ay kinilala ang mga Filipino nurse sa United Kingdom’s National Health Service dahil sa kanilang napakalaking papel sa paglaban sa pandemya sa kanilang bansa.

“A fantastic moment! And great to see that the first (COVID-19) vaccine (in the UK) is administered by nurse May Parsons from the Philippines – one of the thousands of Filipino healthcare workers making an enormous contribution to the NHS,” ani Pruce.

Bago ito ay kinilala rin ni British Jounalist at TV personality Piers Morgan ang mga Filipino nurse sa UK noong Abril sa kasagsagan ng pandemya dahil sa hindi matatawarang pag-aaruga ng mga ito sa mga pasyente.

“So thank you to all the Filipinos who are here doing all this amazing work and to every other working in the NHS currently. I hope at the end of this, we’ll have a, perhaps a different sentiment, a different feeling about what immigration has done for this country,” ani Morgan.
