NANAWAGAN si Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte sa mga member states ng Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation para sa “free flow” ng COVID-19 vaccines sa oras na maging available at maging ang iba pang suplay at teknolohiya para maiwasan ang pagkalat ng novel coronavirus.
Sa ginawang intervention ng pangulo sa APEC Leaders’ Meeting na hinost ng Malaysia, isinulong ni Pangulong Duterte ang “comprehensive recovery with no one left behind.”
“First, we have to ensure the unimpeded flow of medical supplies and technologies, especially COVID-19 vaccines. It is folly to assume that there can be pockets of safe havens in the face of a global pandemic,” ayon kay Pangulong Duterte.
“We have to defeat the virus everywhere, or no one is safe. To do this, we need to strengthen partnerships to make vaccines a global public good,” dagdag na pahayag nito.
Aniya, may ilang modalities ang maaaring gamitin para maging accessible ang bakuna sa lahat ng bansa gaya ng bilateral at multilateral cooperation.
Maaari rin aniya ang Tripartite arrangements sa hanay ng pamahalaan, private sector at multilateral financial institutions.
“There is no other way. Let us resolve to act decisively on universal vaccine access and maximize these mechanisms,” ani Pangulong Duterte.
Pinuri naman ni Duterte ang inisyatiba ng Malaysia na magtatag ng COVID-Live online portal para sa pagbabahagi ng “best practices” hinggil sa epektibong pagtugon at mitigation efforts.
“We have a new reality that is sobering. We should not be discouraged. If anything, we must recommit ourselves to bolder, more concrete ways to ensure our region’s economic well-being and vitality,” pahayag ng punong ehekutibo.
Nangako naman si Pangulong Duterte na susuportahan niya ang APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040, muling patutunayan ang commitment ng Pilipinas para sa “free and rules-based multilateral trading system” sa ilalim ng World Trade Organization.
“We commit to address the widening income inequalities between the countries. And we aim to empower ourselves to face the disruptive impact of a new globalization, driven by digitalization and innovation,” giit ni Pangulong Duterte. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
