NAPAGKASUNDUAN ng national government at Cebu provincial government na tapusin na ang “face-off” hinggil sa pagpapatupad ng mask mandate.

Sinabi ni Interior Secretary Eduardo Año, nakausap na niya si Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia at kapwa sila nagkasundo sa isang ordinansa na gawing opsyonal ang pagsusuot ng face mask sa labas at well-ventilated areas.

“They are currently crafting an IRR (implementing rules and regulations) there to rationalize the wearing of a face mask and we will wait for the result of the IRR before we give further guidance.

They will also craft how to enforce the ordinance rationalizing the wearing of face masks. So they will wait for that,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Nauna rito, sinabi ni Año na ang ipinasang ordinansa Cebu provincial board ay hindi puwedeng ipalit sa Executive Order (EO) 151 ni Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte na nagbibigay mandato sa paggamit ng face masks sa buong bansa maliban sa “allowable circumstances.”

Binigyang diin nito na ang bansa ay nananatili sa ilalim ng state of public health emergency at state of calamity hanggang Setyembre 12, 2022.

Sinabi ni Año na mahigpit na ipatutupad ng Philippine National Police ang mandatory mandatory face mask rule na ipinataw ni Pangulong Duterte sa Cebu at ang lahat ng police officers na tatangging sundin ang kautusan mula sa higher authorities ay mare-relieve sa duty nito.

Para kay Garcia, ang resolusyon ng Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases ay isang “recommendatory in nature” lamang. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
