In a powerful demonstration of multi-sectoral collaboration, Manila Water Foundation, in partnership with Metrobank Foundation, Zuellig Family Foundation, the League of Corporate Foundations (LCF), the Tipo-Tipo Municipal Government, and the Basilan Provincial Government, inaugurated a new water system in Barangay Bohelebung, Tipo-Tipo, Basilan.

The initiative, known as Project Bohè, is part of LCF’s flagship program, “Initiative for Food Security, Nutrition, and Empowerment” (LCF LIFE). This program brings together corporate foundations and local governments to combat child malnutrition and stunting through nutrition-specific, nutrition-sensitive, and enabling interventions. Basilan serves as the pilot province for this transformative effort.

During the inauguration, Manila Water Foundation Executive Director Rej Andal and Metrobank Foundation President Philip Dy were warmly welcomed by Basilan Governor Mujiv Hataman and Second District Board Member Dr. Nur Khan Istarul, both leaders of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). They expressed deep appreciation for the corporate foundations and LCF’s commitment to delivering essential services to underserved mountain communities.

The event was also graced by Tipo-Tipo Vice Mayor Arcam Istarul, representatives from the Basilan Provincial Health Office, Barangay Bohelebung Chairperson Haider Hayad, and other community leaders and residents, who celebrated the milestone with joy and gratitude.

The Project Bohè Water System is designed to treat and deliver up to 350,000 liters of potable water daily through a robust filtration and chlorination network connected by a one-kilometer pipeline. This system will serve 318 households, benefiting over 2,500 residents in this conflict-affected area.

“Ngayon, bawat patak ng malinis na tubig na dumadaloy mula sa gripo ay alaala ng pinagsamang sakripisyo, dedikasyon, at pagmamahal sa komunidad. At sa simpleng pagbukas ng gripo, dadaloy ang tubig na dala ay kalusugan, kaginhawaan, at bagong pag-asa para sa Barangay Bohelebung,” says Dr. Nur Khan Istarul, Basilan Second District Board Member. [Today, every drop of clean water flowing from the faucet is a reminder of the shared sacrifice, dedication, and love for the community. And with a simple turn of the tap, flows water that brings health, comfort, and new hope for Barangay Bohelebung.]

The inauguration of Project Bohè is part of a series of events commemorating the 28th anniversary of Manila Water. Throughout the project cycle, Manila Water volunteer engineers provided technical advisory support to ensure the system’s successful implementation and operational excellence.

This milestone underscores the power of collaboration in delivering sustainable solutions to communities in need. It also reinforces the commitment of corporate foundations and local governments to uplift lives through access to clean water, improved nutrition, and empowered communities.
