INAASAHAN ang patuloy na pagbaba sa singil sa kuryente, inihayag nitong Martes ng Manila Electric Company (Meralco).

Ito, ayon Atty. Ray C. Espinosa, pangulo at CEO, ay dahil sa bilyon-bilyong piso ang matitipid ng mga customer sa mga power supply agreement o PSA na pinasok sa power producers gaya ng PHINMA Energy Corporation, San Miguel Energy Corporation, at South Premiere Power Corporation nasa 1,700 megawatts.

Tinaya ni Atty. Espinosa na abot sa 13.86 bilyon kada taon ang magaganansiya ng mga kustomer sa rate reduction na P0.41 kada kilowatthour.

“The prices from the PSAs we signed are significantly lower than the average generation cost today of around PhP5.88/kWh (VAT inclusive),” pahayag Espinosa.

“Actually we were hesitant to join the bidding dahil grabe ang risk.  Pero I know [Meralco President Ray Espinosa] was trying to protect the consumer,” pahayag naman Ramon Ang, pangulo ng SMC.

“The most important thing is that the consumers are benefitting.  So kami nang bahala to manage that risk,” diin naman ni Phima Energy president Eric Francia.

Nabatid na ang bibilhing kuryente ay produkto ng mga plantang gumagamit ng natural gas at renewable energy gaya ng sinag ng araw (solar) at hangin.

Isang punto pang maganda sa kasunduan ay ang pananagutan ng mga power producers ang anumang pagpalya o hindi pag-deliver sa produkto.

“Also, if the generator companies are unable to deliver power, they will be liable to pay a fine, which will be used to reduce the generation cost to consumers,” wika pa Espinosa.

Isusumite ang PSA sa Energy Regulatory Commission upang masuri at maaprubahan.

Nailista nitong September ang limang buwan tapyas sa singil sa kuryente ng Meralco kung saan P1.52/kWh ang nabawas sa monthly bill ng mga customer.
