NASABAT ng Bureau of Customs (BOC) sa Valenzuela City ang P9 milyong halaga ng produktong agrikultural na ilegal na ipinasok sa bansa.

Sinabi ni Customs Deputy Commissioner Raniel Ramiro, isang joint team mula sa Manila International Container Port-Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (MICP-CIIS) at Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Task Force Aduana ang nanguna sa operasyon sa isang bodegang pag-aari ng Morehouse Marketing sa Barangay Ugong noong Oktubre 8.

Nadiskubre ng pangkat ang 8,000 sako ng sari-saring produktong agrikultural na kinabibilangan ng pulang sibuyas, luya, at munggo nang inspeksyunin ang bodega matapos ipresenta ang Letter of Authority (LOA) na nilagdaan ni Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo Guerrero.

“This is not a one- or two-time thing. This is a continuous effort from the bureau and the MICP-CIIS. The goal is not to allow even one sack of agricultural products to enter the country illegally because we cannot saturate the market with these smuggled products. It will have such a huge impact on the economy, on our farmers,” ani Ramiro.

Susuriin ng BOC ang kinumpiskang mga produkto para sa imbentaryo bago ang pag-iisyu ng Warrants of Seizure and Detention (WSD) alinsunod sa Section 1113 ng Customs Modernization and Tariff Act at mga kasalukuyang regulasyon ng Bureau of Plant Industry. (ALAIN AJERO)
