WOW. Another Pinoy pride ito!

Isang 28-year-old Filipino filmmaker ang nagwagi sa 2019 International Emmys in New York City para sa short film niya tungkol sa isang displaced Muslim student na survivor ng 2017 Marawi Siege.

Siya si Breech Asher Harani mula sa Davao City.

Ginawaran siya ng International Emmys ng JCS International Young Creatives Award noong Lunes, November 25 (Martes, November 26 dito sa Pinas) sa isang gala na ginanap sa New York City. Ang naturang award ay nagbibigay parangal sa one-minute films na may temang kapayapaan.

Natanggap ni Harani ang award para sa kanyang short film na Next to Me. Tungkol ito sa isang Muslim girl na napunta sa isang non-Muslim school matapos mag-evacuate ang pamilya niya dahil sa kaguluhan sa Marawi City. Sinabi ni Harani sa isang interview na ang short film ay bunga ng isang conversation niya sa isang batang survivor ng 2017 Marawi siege

Syempre, proud ang young filmmaker sa kanyang accomplishment! Sabi ni Harani sa kanyang Instagram post: “Still can’t get over how amazing this experience is.”

Sa interview ng ABS-CBN News, sinabi ni Harani na, “Hindi ako makapaniwala kasi, kung iisipin mo, the Emmys is for television di ba? Tapos they opened their doors for short film like this, so thankful ako. It’s very important nowadays to educate our young children to be tolerant with other students with different traditions, different religions. It’s very important especially in the age of social media, where children will be watching 1-minute videos in their phones. I think it’s important that they see contents like this so that their minds would be molded into doing good.”

Bukod kay Harami, dalawa pang filmmakers ang binigyan ng award. Ito’y sina Artes Ferruni mula sa Albania para sa It Starts Within; at Funke Alafiatayo mula sa United Kingdom para sa P.E.A.C.E. – A Spoken Word.

Mapapanood ang mga short films nila sa website ng International Emmys.

Ang competition na ito ay bukas sa lahat ng non-American citizens (puwede ang dual citizens) na edad 18 hanggang 29.

CELEBRITY RESERVISTS EXCITED NA SA FIRST PRESIDENTIAL DRILL

Ito ang kauna-unahang presidential silent drill competition sa Pilipinas, kaya natural lang na excited na ang mga participants, kasama na ang ilang celebrity reservists. Gagawin ito sa December 5, simula 9am, sa Quirino Grandstand sa Maynila.

Nagbigay ng suporta sa naturang competition ang mga artistang reservists at iniimbitahan nila ang mga Filipino na suportahan din ito. Kasama na sa mga sumusuporta sina reservists 2nd Lt. Matteo Guidicelli (Army), Petty Officer 3rd Class Rocco Nacino (Navy) at Army Reservist Capt. Robin Padilla,na gumawa pa ng video para sumuporta sa event.
“Be amazed as you watch the inter-academy silent drill competition. I hope you all can support our Mandatory ROTC Program dahil mag-eenjoy talaga kayo d’yan (you will surely have fun),” sabi ni Rocco sa video.

Ang silent drill competition ay lalahukan ng pinakamagagaling mula sa Philippine Military Academy (PMA), Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA), Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA), Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific (MAAP), Philippine Army Officer Candidate School (PAOCS), Philippine Navy Officer Candidate School (PNOCS), at Philippine Air Force Officer Candidate School (PAFOCS).

Ang top prize ay PHP300,000; second prize ay PHP200,000, at ang third prize ay P100,000. Apat na P50,000 consolation prizes din ang ipamimigay.
