SINIMULAN nang ipamahagi ng pamahalaang lungsod ng Navotas ng calamity financial assistance sa special education (SPED) students at nagsimulag na ring kunin ang 1,500 jeepney drivers at maralitang residente para sa Cash for Work program ng Department of Social Welfare and Development.
Tinatayang 326 SPED students ang nakakuha ng financial aid na P1,000. Sa bilang na ito, 307 ang nasa elementarya, lima ang nasa high school, at 14 ang nasa kolehiyo.
Ang mga benepisyaryo ay mga mag-aaral na na rehistrado sa Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Students Educational Assistance/Scholarship ng pamahalaang lungsod.
“Providing and caring for people who are differently-abled, especially children with special needs, is never easy. The pandemic and the long period of community quarantine made it more difficult, health and money-wise,” ani Mayor Toby Tiangco.
“We hope the financial assistance they received will help relieve their burdens and motivate them to keep going,” dagdag ng alkalde.
Ini-realign ng Persons with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) ang P380,000 sa 2020 budget nito para pondohan ang inisyatibo.
Noong Hunyo, natanggap ng PWD student scholars ang kanilang January-March cash allowance na nagkakahalaga ng P1,500. Nagkakaloob ang scholarship sa mga benepsiyaryo ng P500 monthly educational assistance o P5,000 kada academic year.
Samantala, ang cash for work beneficiaries ay maglilinis sa mga barangay, magtatanim at ang iba pa ay magsasagawa ng iba pang mga aktibidad para maibsan ang epekto ng climate change. Sila ay tatanggap ng P4,050 matapos ang 10 araw ng trabaho.
Maaaring mag-apply ang mga Navoteño na edad 22-59, maliban sa mga buntis, hanggang Agosto 28.
“Many lost their jobs due to business closure or downsizing. That is why we look for ways to lessen the impact of the crisis in our city and on our people,” pagtatapos ni Tiangco. (ALAIN AJERO)
