BITIN para sa mga senador ang siyam na session days sa pagbabalik ng kanilang sesyon sa Mayo 17 hanggang sa kanilang sine die adjournment sa Hunyo 5.

Dahil dito, plano ng mga senador na magsagawa rin ng sesyon tuwing Huwebes upang maging 12 pa ang natitira nilang session days.

“I will propose to have sessions on Thursdays which we had in the Old Congress so we can have 12 days instead of 9,” saad ni Senate President Vicente ‘Tito’ Sotto III.

Suportado naman ito ng mga senador at posibleng aprubahan sa kanilang caucus sa Lunes.

“Am amenable but will surely discuss this in a caucus,” banggit ni Senate President Pro Tempore Ralph Recto.

Sinabi naman ni Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon na susupotahan niya ang Thursday sessions upang matapos ang ilan nilang nakabinbing panukala.

“Yes. SP Sotto broached that proposal to me a few days ago, and I supported it. When SP Sotto and I were neophyte senators in the 90s, the Senate had 4 sessions a week, although the Thursday sessions were devoted to local bills,” paliwanag ni Drilon.

Aminado naman si Senador Grace Poe na kailangan nila ng dagdag na sesyon para matapos ang pagtalakay sa major priority bills.

“I agree with his decision. We have several major priority bills. The Public Service Act is a priority measure and under my committee. This complex and often times contentious bill, will require extensive scrutiny and debates for the body to come up with the most equitable version of the bill we hope to pass into law at the soonest possible time. The PSA is expected to encourage more foreign investments to aid our economy and create the much needed employment especially at this time,” diin ni Poe.

Suportado rin nina Senators Win Gatchalian, Panfilo Lacson, Sonny Angara, Imee Marcos at Kiko Pangilinan ang Thursday sessions. (DANG SAMSON-GARCIA)
