UMAPELA ang isang mambabatas sa Department of Justice (DOJ) na iprayoridad ang matatanda, may sakit at mga may kapansanang Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) sa irerekomendang pagkakalooban ng executive clemency ngayong Christmas season.

Ginawa ni Bicol Saro party-list Rep. Brian Raymund Yamsuan ang apela kaugnay sa 1,500 PDL na inirekomenda ng DOJ kay Pangulong Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., na pagkalooban ng executive clemency.

“We urge the DOJ and the BPP to consider giving priority to elderly, frail PDLs and those suffering from critical illnesses and disabilities in recommending the grant of executive clemency to President Marcos,” ayon sa mambabatas.

Sa resolusyon ng DOJ, tanging ang mga PDL na edad 70 pataas at nakapagsilbi na ng 10 taon sa kanyang sentensya ang pasok sa executive clemency recommendation lalo na kung may sakit na ang mga ito.

Gayunpaman, sinabi ni Yamsuan na maraming matatanda, PWD at mga may sakit na PDLs ang hindi pa umaabot sa 10 taon sa loob ng kulungan ang dapat bigyan din ng konsiderasyon dahil sa kanilang kalagayan.

“And we are hopeful that the President would act on these recommendations for humanitarian reasons. Christmas is a time for mercy and compassion. It is also a time that should be spent with one’s family. PDLs who are old, disabled, or in poor health should be given the chance to spend time with their loved ones,” ayon pa sa mambabatas.

Samantala, inirekomenda rin nito na tulungan ang mga pagkakalooban ng executive clemency na bata at malakas pa para makapagsimula muli at hindi na gumawa pa ng krimen.

Maaari aniyang pag-aralin ang mga ito sa Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) sa ilalim ng Reformation and Release Program ng Bureau of Corrections (BuCor).
