BIG ONE’ PINAKOKONSIDERA SA RECLAMATION SA MLA BAY

DAPAT ikonsidera ng Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) ang pagsulpot ng posibleng major earthquake na tinawag bilang “Big One” pagdating sa reclamation projects sa Manila Bay.

Sa press briefing sa Malakanyang, sinabi ni DENR Secretary Antonia Yulo Loyzaga na ang reclamation projects ay kailangan sa pagpapahusay o pagpapabuti sa ekonomiya, iyon nga lamang kailangan na ikonsidera rin ang epekto nito sa ekolohiya.

“I think what’s important is reclamation has a certain value, obviously in terms of the economy. However, we need to do the cost benefit analysis in terms of the impact to the ecology and the longer term impact in terms of possibly what could result from climate change,” ayon kay Loyzaga.

“For example, sea level rise needs to be considered, the different possible geological events that could actually take place —as you know, there has been a lot of talk about the ‘big one’ ‘no,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Dapat din aniyang ikonsidera ang pagtaas ng sea level.

Nitong nakalipas na Pebrero, sinabi ng Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA) na sisimulan nitong punan ng lupa ang isa sa tatlong reclamation projects ngayong taon sa bay area. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
