SA resolusyon na isumite sa Senado noong Lunes, Jan. 14,  pinuri si  Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Elisa Magnayon Gray sa pagbigay ng “great honor, glory and recognition” sa bansang Pilipinas at sa mga mamamayang Filipino.

Ang resolusyon ay inendorso  sa sesyon noong nagpatuloy ang  sesyon pagkatapos ng mahabang bakasyon para sa Kapaskuhan at Bagong Taon.

Pinuri ni Senate President Vicente Sotto III, sa Senate Resolution 975, ang pagkapanalo ni  Gray at dinaig ang 93 pang mga kandidata sa timpalak kagandahan na  ginanap noong nakaraang December 17, 2018 sa Bangkok, Thailand.

“Whereas, Catriona Elisa Gray’s outstanding performance deserves to be commended and praised for the great honor, glory and recognition brought to our country and the Filipino people,” saad ng resolusyon ni Sotto.

Samantala, ang  resolusyon  na inihain naman ni Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri ay nagpahalaga sa mga ginawa ni  Gray bilang volunteer worker  para sa mga batang  yagit (slums) ng Tondo, Manila  na pinadaan sa non-government organization Young Focus Philippines.

“Whereas, Catriona Elisa Magnayon Gray clinched the crown for the country with her empathic answer to the final question, where, when asked for the most important lesson she has learned in life, she brought up the plight of impoverished children in the slums of Tondo, Manila, and a necessity of using her platform as a spokesperson to help these children see a more hopeful future,”  sabi ni Zubiri.

Ang 25-anyos na beauty queen ay ang pang-apat na Filipina na nagwagi ng titulong  Miss Universe  pagkatapos ni Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach noong 2015, Margie Moran, 1973 at Gloria Diaz noong 1969.
