PINAKIKILOS ng isang senador ang Department of Agriculture (DA) para asistehan ang mga magsasaka mula sa Benguet at Cordillera kaugnay ng mga itinatapong mga aning gulay dahil sa pagiging oversupply nito.
Giit ni Senador Aquilono “Koko” Pimentel III, sa halip na itapon ng mga magsasaka ang mga inaning gulay ay dapat na bilhin na lamang ito ng DA upang hindi masayang at mapakinabangan ng iba’t ibang ahensya ng pamahalaan.
Aniya, magandang balita kung maituturing na maraming supply ng gulay sa nasabing mga lalawigan dahil sa mas makikinabang dito ang mga mahihirap na pamilya para makabili ng murang gulay.
“It’s actually good news that we have extra food supply at low prices in the market. Let’s make more good news by distributing these vegetables to schools, families and other beneficiaries that need food,” sabi ni Pimentel.
Kailangang dapat na gawin umano ng DA ay bilhin ng mga gulay sa mga magsasaka bago ibigay sa Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) upang pangunahan ang pamamahagi nito sa mga eskuwelahan, barangays, orphanages, homes for the elderly, at sa mahihirap na pamilya na tutukuyin ng Department of Education (DepEd) at Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
“Those of us in government should use our kokotes. I’m sure the DA and other agencies have the funds, personnel, and capacity to make this happen. Buy the vegetables cheap, help sellers and merchants dispose of their excess supplies so that nothing goes to waste, then boost government social programs. This can be a win-win situation for all,” paliwanag pa ni Pimentel.
