AMINADO ang chairman ng House committee on ways and means na si Albay Rep. Joey Salceda na imposibleng mangyari ang target ng Marcos Junior administration na maibaba ang inflation sa 2-4% ngayong taon.

Ginawa ng mambabatas ang pahayag matapos maitala ang 8.7% inflation noong Enero na malayong pinakamataas sa nakalipas na halos 15 taon sa kasaysayan ng bansa.

Ayon sa mambabatas, bagama’t inaasahan na bababa ang numerong ito ngayong Pebrero, posibleng bahagya lamang dahil sa pagtaas ng presyo ng itlog at isda.

“I am sure the overall price level on February and every month in 2023 will be lower than 8.7%. Vegetable prices – especially onion – will go lower, especially during this harvest season. But I expect fish prices, as well as egg and dairy prices, to remain elevated. Corn drives those prices, and corn prices – imported or domestic – are expensive,” ayon sa mambabatas.

Ipinaliwanag ng mambabatas na mahalaga ang mais para sa pag-aalaga ng swine at aquaculture industry kaya hangga’t hindi maibaba ang presyo nito ay mananatiling may problema sa presyo ng itlog at isda na makaaapekto sa inflation rate.

“All in all, it looks like 8% is a cyclical level, but 5% is structural. So, that makes your 2-4% inflation target almost off the table, unless you make decisive efforts on the key drivers. High corn prices: that’s enemy number one,” dagdag pa ng mambabatas.

Sa isang pahayag, sinabi ni Marcos Jr. na inaasahan na niyang bababa ang inflation rate matapos ang inaasahang pagbaba sa presyo ng fuel at agricultural products.

Aniya, ang inflation rate sa ngayon ay patuloy na tumataas dahil hindi pa umeepekto ang pagsisikap na ipinatupad ng kanyang administrasyon.

Gayunman, umaasa ang Pangulo na bababa ito sa second quarter ng 2023.

“It is unfortunate that we get the news today that inflation has continued to increase up to 8.7%. I supposed it can only be said that the measures that we have taken have not yet gone through the system,” ayon sa Pangulo sa isang kalatas. (May dagdag na ulat si CHRISTIAN DALE)
