MALAKI ang paniniwala ni ACT-CIS Party-list Representative Nina Taduran na magiging isang ganap nang batas ang inihain nitong Media Workers Welfare Act para sa proteksiyon ng mga mamamahayag.

Ayon kay Rep. Taduran, kung ang MWW Act ay magiging batas, tinitiyak nito na wala nang reporter na magko-cover ng bagyo na garbage bag lang ang suot para maprotektahan ang sarili.

Binigyang-diin ng mambabatas na malaking tulong ang House Bill 2476 para sa media workers at ikatutuwa ng mga ito dahil sa nakapaloob rito ang full protection sa tuwing gaganap sila sa kanilang tungkulin kung saan aprubado na sa House Committee on Labor and Employment.

“Empowering and protecting the members of the Fourth Estate will greatly improve the delivery of truth and information,” ayon sa House Asst. Majority Leader.

Representative Democrito Mendoza, House Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, Majority Leader Martin Romualdez and my co-authors at ACT-CIS, Congressman Eric Yap and Congresswoman Jocelyn Tulfo. Their immediate action for the passage of this bill gives media workers so much hope,” pahayag ni Taduran.

Nagpapasalamat din ang mambabatas sa mga dating kasama sa media na sina PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar at Presidential Task Force on Media Security Undersecretary Joel Egco, gayundin kina Asst. Secretary Kris Ablan at Undersecrerary Jing Paras sa kanilang suporta sa panukala.

“Journalists, technical people and other media workers will be treated as professionals and will be secured as they do their jobs. Matatapos na ang mga panahong lagi silang may takot tungkol sa estado ng kanilang trabaho at kapag lumalabas sa mapanganib na coverage,” ani Taduran.

Nakapaloob sa panukala na ang lahat ng media workers ay pasasahurin ayon sa itinatakda ng batas, may security of tenure at tatanggap ng kaukulang hazard and overtime pay plus insurance at iba pang mga benepisyo.

“Hopefully maisalang agad ang bill para sa proteksyon ng media workers sa plenary session at maaprubahan na ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte next year,” pagtatapos ni Rep.Taduran. (CESAR BARQUILLA)
