KABILANG na ang Pilipinas sa nangungunang “producers” ng tuna sa buong mundo, ayon sa Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR).

“With unwavering determination, we have elevated the Philippines to the ranks of the world’s leading tuna producers. Last year’s impressive production of over 475,000 metric tons speaks to our diligence and the richness of our marine biodiversity — a remarkable achievement for a country of our size,” ang bahagi ng mensahe ni DA Undersecretary for Fisheries Drusila Esther Bayate sa pagtatapos ng 23nd National Tuna Congress and Trade Exhibit sa SM City General Santos Trade Halls sa General Santos City.

“At sa kabila ng liit natin, nakakapag-export pa tayo. More than 107,000 metric tons of tuna were exported last year. Nakaka-proud talagang maging Pilipino,” dagdag na pahayag nito.
Iginiit nito na ang tuna industry ng bansa ay mayroong “rich potential.”

Makikita sa data ng BFAR noong 2022, nakapagtala ang tuna ng 10.25% ng fisheries production ng bansa.

Binigyang-diin ni Bayate na ang tuna industry ng bansa ay patuloy na bumabagay o umaangkop sa iba’t ibang hamon.
