WALANG plano ang liderato ng Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso na isuko ang panukalang sumailalim sa mandatory drug test ang lahat ng government officials.
Ito ang nabatid kay Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr., kaya rebyuhin umano ng mga ito ang desisyon ng Korte Suprema na nagdeklarang ‘unconstitutional” ang mandatory drug drug noong 2008.
“We are carefully reviewing the decision of the Supreme Court and we will craft a new legislatoon that will not be declared by the SC as unconstitutional,” pahayag ng mambabatas sa isang panayam.
Kasama sa Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 ang mandatory drug test sa lahat ng mga opisyales ng gobyerno subalit kinuwestiyon ito sa Korte Suprema kung saan idineklara na paghihimasok ito sa privacy ng mga tao kaya hindi naipatupad.
Subalit, ayon kay Barzaga, kailangang magkaroon ng mandatory drug test dahil tungkulin ng lahat ng mga government official, halal man o hindi maging ehemplo sa lahat ng mga tao.
“Hindi naman ibig sabihin na ang batas ay ideclare ng Korte Suprema na unconstitutional, that decision will remain forever. It is possible that there might be a change in the circumstances na grabe ang problema about drugs kaya maaring suportahan tayo ng Korte Suprema under the so-called general welfare laws which would be the paramount interest of our citizens and our government,” ani Barzaga.
Samantala, iminungkahi ng kongresista na ilipat sa Inter-agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) kung saan co-chair si Leni Robredo ang bahagi ng intelligence fund ng Office of the President.
