NAGTAAS ng alerto ang National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) at kanilang operating arms, ang Office of Civil Defense (OCD), dahil sa paglaki ng potential impact ng Tropical Depression Kristine sa bansa na posible umanong umakyat sa Tropical Cyclone Wind Warning Signal No 4.

“Potential impact of Tropical Depression Kristine grows: 30 million at risk, 18,000 barangays threatened by floods and landslides.”

“This significant increase from an earlier estimate of one million underscores the cyclone’s potential to affect a vast population from Luzon to Mindanao,” ayon sa OCD.

“According to the latest forecast from the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the number of potential victims has surged to 30 million. This is a considerable population at risk, and we need all hands on deck to mitigate the impacts of this disaster,” pahayag pa ni USEC. Nepomuceno.

Ayon sa Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB), mahigit sa 18,000 barangays ang nanganganib sa mga pagbaha at landslides sanhi ng mga pag-ulan. Partikular sa Central Visayas, Cordillera Administrative Region, Eastern Visayas, Ilocos Region, MIMAROPA, Northern Mindanao, SOCCSKSARGEN, Western Visayas, at Zamboanga Peninsula.

Sa Metro Manila, may 1,403 barangays ang lantad sa landslide and flood hazards bunsod ng pag-ulan dala ni Kristine, kabilang ang mga lugar sa Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas, Valenzuela, Pasay, Pateros, Las Piñas, Makati, Muntinlupa, Parañaque, Taguig, Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Marikina, Pasig, San Juan, at Manila.

Nabatid na ang OCD at RDRRMC Bicol ay isinailalim na sa Red Status kahapon ng umaga. Dahil dito nasa ilalim ng Charlie or High Risk protocol ang buong Bicol Region bilang paghahanda sa pananalasa ng Tropical Depression “Kristine.”

Umapela ang Office of Civil Defense (OCD) ng kooperasyon mula sa publiko para na rin sa kanilang kaligtasan.

Ito’y dahil sa posibleng epekto ng Bagyong Kristine na nasa loob na ngayon ng Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).

Ayon kay Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno, kailangan nila ng tulong ng publiko para matiyak na hindi mababalewala ang mga hakbang na ginagawa ng pamahalaan.

Kahapon, nakataas ang Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 sa 15 lugar sa bansa habang papalapit ang Tropical Depression Kristine base sa inilabas na 11 a.m. bulletin ng PAGASA.

“The highest TCWS that may be hoisted during the occurrence of KRISTINE is Wind Signal No. 4,” ayon sa PAGASA.

Huling namataan ang Tropical Depression Kristine sa layong 870 kilometro silangan ng Eastern Visayas.

Taglay nito ang lakas ng hangin na 55 kilometro kada oras malapit sa gitna at pagbugso na hanggang 70 kph. Kumikilos ito sa direksyong west southwestward sa bilis na 30 kph.

“This tropical cyclone is forecast to make landfall over Northern Luzon by Friday (25 October),” ayon sa PAGASA.

Posibleng umabot ng typhoon level ang bagyong Kristine pagsapit ng Huwebes ng gabi o Biyernes ng umaga.

“KRISTINE is forecast to intensify into a tropical storm in the next 12 hours. It may reach severe tropical storm category by Wednesday (23 October) and typhoon category by Thursday (24 October) evening or Friday (25 October) morning, prior to landfall over the northeastern portion of Cagayan.”
