PURSIGIDO si Tokyo Olympian EJ Obiena na pagbutihin ang sarili sa susunod na international competitions.
Nabigo ang 25-anyos na Pinoy pole vaulter na mag-podium finish sa Summer Games na labis niyang ikinadismaya.
Pag-amin ni Obiena, hindi pa rin siya makapaniwala na hindi niya natalon ang 5.80 meters, dahilan kaya’t tuluyan siyang na-eliminate at nagkasya lang sa 11th place sa pole vault final.
Bago ang quadrennial Games, ilang beses pinatunayan ni Obiena na kaya niyang makipagsabayan sa world’s best at tinalo pa ang ilan sa kanila sa pre-Olympic competitions.
“It has been a hard pill to swallow that I wasn’t able to perform to the best of my abilities on the day I needed it most,” ayon kay Obiena sa ulat ng spin. ph.
“It’s even harder to just say ‘it is what it is’ and bad days come and go. I am confident with my abilities to go against the world’s best but something didn’t click, something was missing or perhaps it just wasn’t meant to be.”
Sinabi ni Obiena na animo binabangungot siya sa tuwing naiisip ang nangyari sa Tokyo Olympics. Ngunit ang mga ito rin ang nagbibigay sa kanya ng motibasyon upang mas pagbutihin ang sarili.
