KAAGAD na ipinag-utos ni Interior Secretary Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr. sa Philippine National Police (PNP) ang mahigpit na seguridad sa Lamitan City, Basilan province matapos tambangan kaninang umaga ang ama ni Chao-Tiao Yumol, suspek sa pamamaril sa Ateneo nitong Linggo.

“I have ordered the PNP to tighten existing checkpoints in Lamitan City, including its borders to prevent the culprits in the Yumol slaying from escaping,” ayon kay Abalos.

Tiniyak ni Abalos sa publiko na “on top of the situation” ang PNP at ang lahat ng police units sa Basilan ay inatasan na panatilihin ang peace and order sa island province.

“Ronaldo Yumol’s case is still being investigated and we will wait for the results of the investigation. So I ask the public to refrain from making assumptions about the case,” pahayag pa rin ni Abalos.

Ayon sa ulat, pinaputukan ng mga suspek si Rolando Yumol sa harap ng kanilang bahay sa Brgy. Maganda, Lamitan City, Basilan. Sinasabing nakasakay sa motorsiklo ang mga salarin.

“Our police personnel in Lamitan City is already conducting an investigation regarding the case,” ani Police Brig. Gen. Roderick Alba, Philippine National Police public information officer.

Ayon naman sa Police Regional Office Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, dalawa ang suspek na nagsagawa ng krimen. Sinasabing miyembro ng Philippine Constabulary ang nakatatandang Yumol.

“I call on the public to cooperate with police investigators. If anyone has any information that may help the PNP solve the case, I ask you to please come forward,” ani Abalos.

Matatandaang tatlo ang namatay sa naganap na shooting spree noong Linggo July 24. Ito ay sina dating Lamitan mayor Rosita Furigay, assistant nitong si Victor Capistrano, pati na rin ang Ateneo security guard na si Jeneven Bandiala. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
