IPINAAARESTO ng Sandiganbayan si dating PCGG chairman Camilo Sabio kaugnay nang kinakaharap nitong kasong katiwalian.

Ito ay makaraang ibasura ng 4th Division ng anti-graft court ang apela ni Sabio laban sa hatol sa kanya na maaresto at mapiit nuong Nobyembre ng nakaraang taon.

Sa resolusyon ng Sandiganbayan na pirmado ni Associate Justice Reynaldo Cruz, hindi nito kinagat ang argumento ni Sabio patungkol sa double jeopardy dahil may nauna nang nabasurang katulad nitong kaso.

Nag-ugat ang kasong katiwalian laban kay Sabio sa alegasyon na namagitan umano ito sa isang Atty. Jesus Santos ng Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) at sa kapatid nitong si Court of Appeals Associate Justice Antonio na hahawak nuon ng kaso ng GSIS at Meralco.

“The evidence on record confirms that accused Sabio indeed allowed himself to be persuaded and induced by Atty. Santos to call Justice Sabio for the purpose of persuading the later to favor the cause of the GSIS against Meralco,” ayon sa Sandiganbayan.

Ikinatwiran din ng Sandiganbayan sa desisyon na naghain ng apela si Sabio na lagpas na sa 15-day deadline simula nang matanggap ang conviction sa kaso nuong Nobyembre 29, 2019.

“Accordingly, the failure of the accused to file his motion for reconsideration within the prescribed period renders the judgment of conviction in Criminal Case No. SB-16-CRM-1234, final and executory. Let a Warrant of Arrest be issued against the said accused, and the post-promulgation bond he posted be cancelled,” diin ng Sandiganbayan. JG TUMBADO
