SA hangaring tiyakin na walang makakalusot na kontrabando, sumipa na ang mahigpit na pagbabantay sa galaw ng mga foreign-registered vessel at pleasure yacht na naglalayag sa karagatang sakop ng Central Visayas Region.
Katuwang ang Bureau of Customs (BOC), puspusang tututukan ng Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) regional office ang paglalayag ng lahat ng uri ng sasakyang-dagat sa naturang rehiyon.
Sa isang pulong, nagkasundo rin ang mga opisyales ng dalawang nabanggit na ahensya na pabilisin ang documentation process ng mga ocean-sailing vessel at mga luxury yacht sa pagpasok sa mga karagatan sa Central Visayas na kinabibilangan ng mga lalawigan ng Cebu, Bohol, Negros Oriental, at Siquijor.
“The joint effort is expected to hasten the documentation process of vessels, while ensuring the timely collection of lawful duties and taxes,” saad sa pinag-isang pahayag ng BOC at MARINA.
Bukod sa mga naturang ahensya, target ding lumikha ng isang task force kasama ang Philippine Coast Guard – Central Visayas District, Cebu Port Authority at mga Port Management Office ng Bohol, Negros Oriental at Siquijor.
Nanindigan naman ang pamunuan ng BOC-Port of Cebu na malaking bentahe sa mahigpit na pagpapatupad ng maritime regulations.
“The regulations are in place, but there lacks strength in implementation because concerned agencies are acting independently, and resources and manpower are always present as roadblocks. Through this task force, we will be able to easily identify the owners of the pleasure yachts operating illegally within our waters, and collect the taxes due to the government”, ayon kay Port of Cebu District Collector Elvira Cruz.
