SINABI ni National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) Director General-designate Ricardo de Leon na nais niyang bigyan ng atensyon at mag-pokus sa West Philippine Sea (WPS) sa gitna ng territorial dispute ng Pilipinas sa China.

“I really agree that we have to give also focus on the WPS kasi any development with our neighbor especially in that area would certainly affect domestic security,” ayon kay de Leon.

“We have to view everything and integrate, harmonize our efforts. We cannot just isolate ourselves and say bahala na diyan sa ano,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Tugon ito ni De Leon sa tanong kung paano makapagbibigay siya ng mas maraming resources para sa intelligence-gathering para sa WPS sa halip na masorpresa sa presensya ng Chinese vessels doon.

“The AFP Modernization Program should be sustained as equipment and facilities are needed to improve intelligence capabilities,” ayon kay De Leon.

Kumpiyansa si De Leon na itutuloy ito ni President-elect Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ang bagay na ito.

Sinabi pa niya na itutuon din niya ang kanyang pansin sa pagpapalawak ng intelligence efforts sa ibang bansa dahil ang security issues ng ibang bansa ay maaaring makaapekto sa Pilipinas.

Sinabi pa rin niya na layon niyang paghusayin ang intelligence efforts sa local level, kabilang na ang barangay.

“Pagandahin natin yung sa lower areas of intelligence fusion, meaning hanggang doon sa municipalities at barangays,” anito.

Para kay De Leon, ang balidasyon ng intelligence information sa anti-drug war campaign ng gobyerno ay dapat na “refined.”

“Kasi lahat ng mga information dapat validated, so yung validation process needs to be improved,” anito.

“With better intelligence capabilities, drug lords could be arrested through case buildup and manhunt operation,” aniya pa rin. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
