IMBES magsayang ng pera ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) sa 2025 elections, gamitin na lamang nito ang vote-counting machines (VCMs) na inarkila sa Smartmatic Philippines mula noong 2015.

Ito ang rekomendasyon ni Cagayan de Oro City Rep. Rufus Rodriguez sa Comelec para makatipid ng bilyones sa susunod na eleksyon.

“Based on the Smartmatic letter, 93,977 precinct based Optical Mark Readers (OMR), and their accompanying Election Management System (EMS) are still covered by the warranty which extended to three subsequent national and local elections after the 2016 polls,” ani Rodriguez.

Hanggang ngayon aniya ay pag-aari ng Comelec ang Automated Election System na software ng EMS, vote counting system, consolidated canvassing system (CCS) na binili ahensya noong 2021 sa halagang P402.73 million.

“Hence, there is no compelling need to purchase new machines for the 2025 elections,” pahayag ni Rodriguez.

Hindi na ang Smartmatic ang hahawak sa 2025 election dahil ibinigay na ng Comelec ang kontrata sa lone bidder at kontrobersyal na South Korean company na Miru Systems Co. Ltd., na ayon sa mambabatas ay nangangahulugan na bibili ng mga bagong kagamitan ang Comelec.

Naging kontrobersyal ang Miru dahil sa kwestyunable umanong eleksyon sa Congo at Iraq. (BERNARD TAGUINOD)
