“WHAT is the status of the supposed charges filed against Chronic Plastics Inc., the consignee of the imported trash from Canada in 103 cargo containers?”

Ito ang ibinatong tanong ni Misamis Oriental Rep. Juliette Uy sa Department of Justice (DoJ), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) at Bureau of Customs (BoC) ukol sa nasabing kumpanya na nasa likod umano ng pag-aangkat ng basura mula Canada.

Ginawa ng mambabatas ang pahayag matapos magbanta si Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na gigiyerahin nito ang Canada kapag hindi nito kinuha ang basurang itinapon sa Pilipinas.

Base sa mga report, dumating ang mga basura mula 2013 at 2014 na unang idineklara umano ng consignee bilang mga scrap plastic materials subalit natuklasan na pawang mga basura ito tulad ng adult diapers, household trash, plastic bags, plastic bottle at iba pa kaya sinampahan ang Chronic Plastic Inc., ng kaso limang taon na ang nakararaan.

“Bureau of Customs, the Department of Justice, and the Court Administrator of the Supreme Court should now update the public on the status of the cases filed against Chronic Plastics because it has been over five years,” ani Uy.

Kasama rin sa pinagpa-update ng mambabatas ang Verde Soko na nasa likod naman umano ng pag-aangkat ng basura mula sa South Korea dahil karapatan umano ng publiko na malaman ang status ng kaso.

“I also take this opportunity to follow-up with the Department of Justice, the status of the charges against Verde Soko. The NBI investigated and filed the charges with the prosecutor,” ani Uy.

Nalabag umano ang Republic Act 9003 o ang  Ecological Solid Waste Management Act at maging ang  1995 Basel Convention on the Transboundary Movement of Hazardous Wastes and Disposal nang angkatin ang mga basurang ito mula sa ibang bansa.

“Chronic Plastics is no different from Verde Soko. Both misdeclared their cargo to illegally import their dangerous contraband cargo,” ayon pa sa lady solon kaya dapat umanong mapanagot ang mga ito at mga kasabwat nilang mga opisyal kung mayroon man kaya nakalusot ang mga basurang ito.
