PINANGANGAMBAHAN ni Rizal 2nd District Congressman Fidel Nograles na mayayanig ang tiwala ng publiko sa sistema ng hustisya sa bansa sa walang tigil na pagpatay sa mga abogado sa bansa.

Ginawa ni Nograles ang pahayag matapos paslangin si Atty. Joey Luis Wee habang papasok sa kanyang opisina sa Cebu noong Lunes, Nobyembre 23, 2020.

“I condemn to the highest degree this latest in a string of murders of members of the law profession. Tama na po—this is the third straight week that a worker for justice has been killed,” ani Nograles.

Si Atty. Wee ang ika-53 law professional na pinatay mula noong 2016 at ikatlo ngayong buwan ng Nobyembre.

Magugunita na noong Nobyembre 17 ay inambush at napatay si Atty. Eric Jay Magcamit sa Quezon, Palawan habang pinaslang naman sa loob ng opisina si Judge Ma. Theresa Abadilla ng kanyang clerk of court noong November 11.

“Without decisive and drastic intervention, I fear our people’s faith in the justice system may be shaken by these killings,” pahayag ng Harvard trained-lawyer kahapon.

Dahil dito, umapela si Nograles sa gobyerno na gawin ang lahat ng nararapat na paraan para mapanagot ang mga nasa likod ng pagpatay ng mga law professional sa bansa.

“The government has to take a public stand against these extrajudicial killings, and to show that it is serious in tackling this issue. Otherwise, its silence would be treated as a tacit agreement that perpetrators can do as they please,” dagdag pa ni Nograles.

Nagbabala ang mambabatas na kung hindi mareresolba ang mga pagpatay sa law professionals at hindi mapanagot ang mga nasa likod nito ay malaki ang magiging epekto nito sa sistema ng hustisya sa bansa.

“The killing of lawyers, prosecutors, and judges is an extreme act that instill fear and uncertainty in our people. The pursuit of law and justice under peaceful conditions should be guaranteed by government,” ayon pa kay Nograles.

“Without these guarantees, the people would hesitate to fight for their rights in court,” ayon pa sa mambabatas. (BERNARD TAGUINOD)
