MAPIPILITAN ang pamahalaan na ilagay muli ang Pilipinas sa ilalim ng lockdown sakali’t mkapasok at kumalat sa bansa ang natukoy na bagong coronavirus strain mula sa United Kingdom.

“Actually iyong lockdown is a possibility. I said we are making some projections. But if the severity in numbers would demand that we take corrective measures immediately then we’ll just have to go back to lockdown,” ayon kay Pangulong Duterte.

Gayunman, nilinaw ni Pangulong Duterte na ang muling pagsasailalim sa bansa sa lockdown ay depende sa malalang bilang ng posibleng magkaroon ng bagong COVID-19 strain.

“In the meantime [that] we are not able to confront them effectively. Kasi ‘pag marami na [ang cases with the new variant] and we do not have the antidote how to kill those variants, we have a problem there,” ayon sa pangulo.

Sinabi naman ni National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana na maaaring muling magpatupad ang pamahalaan ng mahigpit na lockdown, “but not after the IATF agrees on a “threshold.”

Para naman kay Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año, ang COVID-19 situation sa bansa ay nananatiling manageable, subalit kailangan na ang gobyerno ay nakatutok sa international borders ng bansa.

Aniya pa, ang minimum public health protocols ay standards na kailangan maipatupad.

Sinabi naman ni Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr., chief implementer of the government’s COVID-19 response, na marapat lamang na ang pamahalaan ay gumawa ng “pro-active measures” sa pagkakatuklas ng bagong coronavirus strain sa United Kingdom.  (CHRISTIAN DALE)
