BUBUSISIIN simula ngayong araw ng mababang kapulungan ng Kongreso ang pagharang ng Department of Health (DOH) at Food and Drug Administration (FDA) sa paggamit ng anti-parasite drug na Ivermectin na nakagagamot umano sa COVID-19 patients.

Ito ay matapos payagan ni Speaker Lord Allan Velasco ang House committee on health na magsagawa ng imbestigasyon ngayong araw.

Sa House Resolution na inakda ni Anakalusugan party-list Rep. Mike Defensor, nais nitong paimbestigahan kung bakit hindi pinapayagan ang Ivermectin bilang gamot sa COVID-19 gayung 30 taon na itong kasama sa essential medicines sa Pilipinas.

“WHEREAS, Ivermectin is in the WHO and Philippine National Formulary List of Essential Medicine. About 3.7 billion doses of Ivermectin have been distributed in mass drug administration campaigns globally over the past 30 years,” ayon sa resolution ni Defensor.

“Another investigational drug which we should study allowing in the fight against COVID-19 is Ivermectin. Merck & Co. Inc. recognized Ivermectin’s potential for human use, particularly in the control of filariasis and most notably onchocerciasis, the cause of river blindness in West Africa, in the early 1980s,” ayon pa sa resolusyon.

Inamin ni Defensor na ito ang gamot na kanyang ginamit noong magpositibo siya sa COVID-19 tatlong linggo na ang nakararaan bukod sa paracetamol, ibrufren at mga multi-vitamin.

Kinontra ng mambabatas ang pahayag ng DOH at FDA na para lamang sa mga hayop ang Ivermectin dahil bago pa man aniya nagkaroon ng COVID-19 ay puwede na itong gamitin sa mga tao bilang anti-parasite drug.

Bukod sa nakagagaling ay mura ito kumpara sa Remdesivir na siyang itinuturok sa mga pasyante ng COVID-19.

“Ivermectin is also considered cost-effective compared to other repurposed COVID-19 drugs, such as Remdesivir, which costs P28,000 per vial and must be administered twice daily until such time that the patient is discharged.

Ivermectin costs only around P35, to be administered once daily for three days—totalling to just a little over P100,” ayon naman kay IPACMAN party-list Rep. Eric Pineda na nagpatawag din ng imbestigasyon ukol dito.

Aalamin din sa nasabing imbestigasyon ang biglang pagdami ng COVID-19 cases na naging dahilan para isailalim muli sa enhanced community quarantine ang Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite at Laguna. (BERNARD TAGUINOD)
