Lumagda ang Bureau of Customs (BOC) sa isang Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) on Information Exchange and Reconciliation kasama ang Department of Energy (DOE) at Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) para sa pagpapalakas ng prog­rama ng gobyerno laban sa fuel smuggling.

Layunin ng memorandum ay para gawing pormal ang patuloy na partnership sa pagitan ng DOE, BIR, at BOC sa paglaban sa illegal oil smuggling at magtulungan sa tamang proseso ng taxes.

Sa ilalim ng memorandum, ang Information Exchange and Reconciliation Committee ay binuo para mag-monitor at mag-report ng anumang pagkakaiba-iba o variance sa ‘information on volumes of imported and exported crude oil, finished petroleum products and bioethanol’.

“Through this Memorandum of Agreement, the BOC looks forward to building a better, more transparent partnership with the DOE and the BIR, moving towards the common vision of curbing oil smuggling and ensuring proper assessment of taxes through regular information exchange,” ani Customs Commissioner Rey Leonardo B. Guerrero.

Kaugnay nito, ang nasabing programa ay malaki ang maiaambag sa koleksyon ng Bureau of Customs sa duties and taxes mula sa mga produktong petrolyo.

Ang oil smuggling sa bansa ay isa sa malaking pinagkakakitaan ng mga negos­yante na ayaw magbayad ng tamang duties and taxes.
