DALAWANG PNP-Special Action Force (SAF) trainees ang namatay habang apat pang pulis ang malubhang nasugatan sa engkwentro laban sa mga teroristang New People’s Army (NPA) sa Gamay, Northern Samar nitong Linggo.

Ayon sa PNP-Police Regional Office 8, nangyari ang sagupaan sa bisinidad ng Barangay Lunoy.

Sinasabing ang mga biktima ay sumasailalim sa Special Action Force Commando Course (SAFCC) para maging ganap na kasapi ng PNP-SAF.

Napag-alaman na ang mga namatay ay mga batang pulis na may ranggong patrolman, habang ang mga sugatan ay police lieutenants na pawang isinugod sa pagamutan.

Kasalukuyang nagpapatuloy ang hot pursuit operation ng pinagsanib na puwersa ng pulisya at Philippine Army sa ground habang may nagsisilbing air cover mula sa Philippine Air Force air asset na agad na minobilisa sa pagtugis sa mga rebelde.

Kaugnay nito, ginawaran ng parangal ni PNP chief, Gen. Dionardo Carlos ang dalawang bagitong pulis na agad napasabak sa sagupaan laban sa mga miyembro ng CPP-NPA.

Kinilala ni Gen. Carlos ang dalawang namatay na SAF trainees na sina Pat. Franklin Marquez at Pat. Jimmy Caraggayan na nahagip ng improvised explosive devices (EID) na itinanim ng NPA bilang depensa sa kanilang pinagtataguan.

“We express our condolences to the families of Pat. Franklin Marquez and Pat. Jimmy Caraggayan. Our snappy salute to the bravery they have shown.

They were killed in the line of duty defending our country against insurgency.

We would want to recognize the valor of four other troop members who were injured during the firefight,” pahayag ni Carlos.

Mariin namang kinondena ni Carlos ang ginawang atrosidad ng NPA.

“Pursuit operations will continue without letup against these criminals while I ordered police forces in the area to establish more checkpoints and prevent the possible escape of the fleeing terrorists.

We will make sure that justice will be served, and the deaths of our fellow law enforcers will not be in vain,” dagdag pa ni Gen. Carlos. (JESSE KABEL)
