NAKALUSOT nang mabilis sa makapangyarihang Commission on Appointments (CA) ang ad interim appointment ng 46 general/flag officers at senior officers ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), kabilang si Presidential Security Group chief, Brig. Gen. Ramon Zagala.

Itinalaga si Zagala bilang commander ng Civil Relations Service ng AFP noong nakaraang taon.

Nanguna sa mga general officer na nakapasa sa CA si Major General Edmundo Peralta, Chief of the Intelligence Service AFP.

Ayon kay Rep. Jurdin Jesus Romualdo, tagapangulo ng panel ng National Defense ng CA sa plenaryo, ang mga opisyal ng AFP ay kwalipikadong kumuha ng kanilang mga ranggo.

Gayunpaman, ipinagpaliban ng panel ang ad interim appointment ni Brig. Gen. Ranulfo Sevilla sa kahilingan ni Senador Risa Hontiveros na hindi nakadalo sa pulong ng CA, na pinamumunuan ni Senate President and CA Chairperson Juan Miguel Zubiri.

Ito ay matapos makatanggap ng sinumpaang oposisyon ang CA sa pagtatalaga kay Sevilla na kasalukuyang nagsisilbing deputy commander ng AFP Special Operations Command.

Nabatid na ipagpapatuloy ng CA ang panel confirmation hearing kaugnay sa pagtutol ni Hontiveros sa appointment ni Sevilla sa susunod na linggo.

Sa plenary deliberations ng CA, nanumpa bilang mga bagong miyembro ng CA sina Senators Ramon Revilla, Ronald dela Rosa, at Raffy Tulfo.

Pinalitan nila sina Senators JV Ejercito, Nancy Binay, Francis Tolentino, at Imee Marcos

Kabilang sa appointees ang limang Major Generals, 19 Brigadier Generals/Commodores, at 22 Colonels/Captains, na ayon sa komite ay “determined to be fit and qualified to be promoted to the ranks where they are appointed.”

“Their confirmation attests to the effective implementation of meritocracy in the military and the selection of competent leaders guided by the principles of merit, fitness, character, honor, and integrity,” ayon sa CA.
