PAGAGANAHIN ni Pangulo at Agriculture Secretary Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. ang “Masagana 150” at “Masagana 200”, panukala ni dating Secretary William Dar, dahil sa nagbabadyang krisis sa pagkain.

Sa naging pagpupulong ng Pangulo kasama ang mga opisyal ng Department of Agriculture (DA), sinabi ni Marcos na ang pangunahin niyang prayoridad pagdating sa short term ay palakasin ang suplay ng pagkain bunsod na rin ng global crisis.

“We have to attend to the impending food crisis, that it seems it will be visiting us in the next two quarters and when we look around the world, everyone is preparing for it,” ani Pangulong Marcos.

Nauna rito, nagbabala si Dar ng nagbabadyang food crisis, tinukoy nito ang kakulangan sa produktong available sa global market.

Matatandaang matagal nang isinusulong ni Dar na palakasin ang rice production sa ilalim ng panukalang Masagana 150 na makapagbibigay ng 7.5 tonelada ng inbred rice kada ektarya sa P8.38 production cost kada kilogram.

“This would translate to a net profit of P50,000 per hectare for farmers based on a market price of P27.50 per kilogram,” ayon kay Dar.

Samantala, ang Masagana 200 “aims to yield 10 tons of hybrid rice per hectare at a production cost of P7.82 per kilogram. This would give farmers a net of P70,000 based on a market price of P27.50 per kilogram.”

“The program would entail the shift from transplanted rice to direct seeded rice, with the practice of 40 kilograms-per-hectare seeding rate for inbred rice and 15 kilograms-per-hectare for hybrid,” ayon sa ulat.

“Masagana 150 tapos 200, these are good plans that we have to put into place. Let us operationalize them already,” ayon naman sa Chief Executive.

“If there are EOs (executive orders) that you might need, legislation that you might need, you draft them already and you give them to us and we’ll see kung alin ‘yung gagamitin natin doon,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

Ang panukala ay base sa Masagana 99 na ipinatupad ng namayapa at dating Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Sr., ama ni Pangulong Marcos Jr., ikinasa upang makamit ang rice self-sufficiency sa bansa.

Ito ay ginawa sa pamamagitan ng pagtatanim ng “Miracle Rice” na itinaguyod ng International Rice Research Institute (IRRI) na sinasabing maaaring makapagbigay o makapag-produce ng 99 sako ng bigas kada ektarya.

Ang programa, sa kabilang dako ay itinigil dahil sa usapin hinggil sa credit subsidy component. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
