PANAHON na para i-account ng Palasyo ng Malacañang ang Maharlika Investment Fund (MIF).

Ito ang iginiit ni outgoing Bagong Henerasyon party-list Rep. Bernadette Herrera dahil halos tatlong taon mula nang buuin ang MIF at itatag ang Maharlika Investment Corporation (MIC) ay wala nang naririnig dito.

“It is time to account for the Maharlika Investment Funds,” ani Herrera dahil pera ng taumbayan aniya ang ginamit ng MIC sa mga investment na pinasok ng mga ito.

“Seventy five bill (P75 billion) of public funds were plowed into the fund as required by the law. Where are the projects? Where are the returns on investment? Where is the P75 billion?,” tanong pa ng mambabatas.

Naging kontrobersyal ang MIF dahil ipinilit pa rin ito kahit maraming kahalintulad na investment ng ibang bansa ang bumagsak at nagamit ng mga politiko sa kanilang pansariling interes tulad ng kaso ng 1Malaysia Development Berhad o 1MDB.

Lalong pinalagan ng mga Pilipino ang MIF matapos tangkain ng Marcos Junior administration na gamitin sa MIC ang P89.9 billion ng Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) subalit pinigilan ng Korte Suprema.

“Fortunately, disaster was averted when the state pension funds were excluded from the seed funding sources,” ani Herrera.

Kinuha ang pondo ng MIC sa Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), Land Bank at National Government kaya karapatan pa rin aniya ng mga Pilipino na alamin kung saan ginamit ang perang ito at magkano na ang kinita kung hindi man nalugi.

“Oversight powers of Congress should be invoked to ascertain in detail the status of the Fund and whether the MIC and other involved agencies fully comply with the MIC charter and related laws,” ayon pa kay Herrera.
