BAHALA na ang National Task Force on Ending Local Armed Conflict na talakayin kay Pangulong Rodrigo Roa Duterte ang panawagang palawigin ang unilateral ceasefire sa New People’s Army (NPA).
“The call for peace is everyone’s desire and it has become more urgent in the present state of calamity and public health emergency,” ayon kay Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque. Nagtapos noong Abril 16 ang ceasefire bagamat pinalawig ito ng NPA hanggang Abril 30.
“We find it, however, unfortunate that the members of the NPA themselves violated their own declaration of truce in the form of violent armed encounters with government troops. They even forcibly seized relief goods last April 7 intended for Barangay Guinmayohan residents in Balangiga, Eastern Samar, affected by the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19),” ang pahayag ni Sec. Roque.
Nauna nang sinabi ng Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) na tuloy ang opensiba ng militar hanggang walang desisyon ang Pangulo kung magpapatuloy ang tigil-putukan.
Habang inutusan ng Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) ang New People’s Army na palawigin ang pagpapatupad ng sarili nilang tigil-opensiba sa buong bansa, para matugunan ang krisis na dulot ng COVID-19.
Sa isang kalatas, sinabi ng CPP na pinalawig ng Central Committee ang ceasefire hanggang 11:59 ng gabi ng Abril 30, mula sa naunang deklarasyong napaso Miyerkoles ng gabi.
Ayon sa komite, pinatitigil ang opensiba ng NPA at Milisyang Bayan laban sa Armed Forces, National Police, at iba pang armadong sangay ng gobyerno paara mapangasiwaan ang pamamahagi ng tulong, sa gitna ng COVID-19 pandemic. CHRISTIAN DALE
