DAHIL kailangan na kailangan ang serbisyo ng guidance counselors ngayong panahon ng pandemya, hiniling ni Anakalusugan Party-list Rep. Mike Defensor sa Kongreso na bigyan ng tamang pasahod ang mga ito.
Ginawa ni Defensor ang nasabing kahilingan bunsod ng pagkakaroon sa kasalukuyan ng kakulangan sa guidance counselors ngunit walang aplikante dahil maliit ang sahod ng mga ito.
“There’s no question many students are having a hard time coping with remote modular as well as online learning, mainly due to the lack of social interaction. We need more guidance counselors to reach out and listen to students who may feel isolated and need encouragement to complete assigned tasks,” pahayag ng mambabatas.
Ayon sa mambabatas, pinayagan ng Department of Education (DepEd) na magkaroon ng 5,398 positions para sa guidance counselors subalit 80% o 4,302 ang bakante at dahil masyadong maliit umano ang suweldo kaya walang aplikante.
Pinasasahod lamang umano ng P23,877 o Salary Grade (SG) 11 ang isang guidance counselor kaya nais ng mambabatas na itaas ito sa SG 16 o katumbas ng P36,628 sahod kada buwan.
“Congress should fix the problem by bumping up the pay for the entry level position of Guidance Counselor I by 53 percent, or by five notches, from Salary Grade (SG) 11 to SG 16,” ani Defensor.
Nais din ng mambabatas na gawing SG 23 o P76,907 kada buwan ang sahod ng Guidance Services Specialist mula sa SG 22 o P68,415.
“Once we raise the pay grades, the DepEd will be able to attract more applicants for guidance counselors, including those from the ranks of qualified teachers laid off on account of the closure of hundreds of private schools,” ayon pa sa mambabatas.
Naniniwala si Defensor na maraming magiging aplikante sa nasabing posisyon kapag itinaas ang sahod ng mga ito lalo na’t umaabot sa 4,488 guro ang nawalan ng trabaho matapos magsara ang 865 private elementary and high schools dahil sa COVID-19 pandemic.
Sa ngayon ay licensed professional teachers na may master degree ang kailangang para sa nasabing posisyon kaya hiniling din ni Defensor sa Commission on Higher Education (CHED) na pagkalooban ng scholarship ang license teachers para magkaroon ang mga ito ng master degree. (BERNARD TAGUINOD)
