“Definitely! Absolutely! Climate change should be an election issue,” saad ni Marcos.

“For the first time we are seeing fatal floods in Europe, wildfires in Australia and the US–all forewarned in the Philippines by Typhoons Ondoy and Yolanda, to name just two. All over the world, countries are strengthening their climate change programs towards mitigation by complying with the targets of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change,” pahayag ni Marcos.

“In the upcoming elections, the public must demand a climate change agenda from each candidates, because the Philippines is one of the most vulnerable countries. For beyond politics climate change puts at stake peoples’ lives and security,” dagdag ni Marcos.

“No nation can do it alone. It is time for the community of nations to really take this issue very seriously. The earth can only take so much abuse, cruelty and punishment from man. If we cannot still see some obvious acts of revenge from nature, we may wake up one day personally witnessing its fury upon us – one way or the other,” diin ni Lacson.

“The floods in Europe need not happen for us to do this. Our own experience of almost yearly typhoons and flash floods in the Philippines should already oblige us to set protocols, systems, and practices that must save our environment, and in effect, save lives,” diin ni Hontiveros.

“There has been a loud global outcry over climate change in recent years, and many young people are demanding that people in power use their positions to definitively tackle environmental issues that affect our daily lives,” saad ni Hontiveros. (DANG SAMSON-GARCIA)
