DISMAYADO si SAGIP Party-list Rep. Rodante Marcoleta sa patuloy umanong pagtanggi ng Senado na maamyendahan ang 1987 Constitution sa pamamagitan ng constituent assembly.

“For the longest time, the House of Representatives has been inviting the Senate to meet with us on a constituent assembly, and the Senate repeatedly refused us. This is on record,” ani Marcoleta na ang pinatutungkulan ay ang pagdedma ng Senado sa mga resolusyong inaprubahan ng Kamara.

Ipinahayag ni Marcoleta ang kanyang pagkadismaya sa pagdalo nito sa pagdinig ng Senate Committee on Electoral Reforms and People’s Participation, kaugnay ng isinusulong na people’s initiative.

Inimbita ng chairperson ng Senate committee na si Senator Imee Marcos si Marcoleta upang makibahagi sa pagdinig.

“It’s impossible. We cannot use the constituent assembly. Every time an invitation is issued to the Senate by the House, the answer is ‘dedma,” saad ni Marcoleta.

“The complaint arises from the fact that you do not want to meet with us. So my question, how can we? How can we make use of that particular modality?” tanong ni Marcoleta.

Sinabi ni Marcoleta na mula noong panahon ni Speaker Sonny Belmonte, hindi inaaksyunan ng Senado ang mga resolusyon na ipinapasa ng Kamara para maamyendahan ang Konstitusyon.

Sa ilalim ng kasalukuyang pamumuno ni Senate President Juan Miguel Zubiri, nagpakita ng pagiging bukas ang Senado sa pag-amyenda sa Konstitusyon subalit iniatras nila ito dahil sa people’s initiative.

Inaakusahan ng mga senador ang mga kongresista na nasa likod ng people’s initiative na paulit-ulit na itinatanggi ng mga miyembro ng Kamara.
