TITIMBANGIN munang mabuti ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ang posisyon at opinyon ng iba’t ibang ahensya ng pamahalaan pagdating sa polisiya sa pagsusuot ng face mask.

Sa press conference bago ang meet and greet ng Pangulo sa Filipino community sa Fairmont Hotel sa Jakarta, Indonesia, tinanong si Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles kung magbibigay ng kanyang pahayag si Pangulong Marcos ukol sa mandatory o obligadong paggamit ng face masks.

“Primarily, this is a matter for the DOH and it will be the DOH who will primarily advise the President on health matters. That being said, we will also have to wait because right now, although the issue is ranging, there is intervention by the SILG [Secretary of the Interior and Local Government] and he has asked Cebu to kindly defer their plan,” ayon kay Cruz-Angeles.

“I understand that there is a response that they will not defer. So we will wait first for further action on the part of the Department of the Interior [and Local Government], and so all of that will be taken into consideration by the President,” dagdag na pahayag nito.

“For now, we will wait for a definitive statement. The President is, what we can say is he values the opinion of the DOH but he will likewise listen to everybody,” sinabi pa ni Cruz-Angeles.
Sa ulat, hindi na mandatory at opsyonal na lang ang pagsusuot ng face masks sa Cebu City.

Pinirmahan na kasi ni Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama, noong Miyerkoles, August 31, ang Executive Order No. 5 na nagtatanggal sa mandatoryong pagsusuot ng face masks sa lungsod.
Batay sa executive order, magiging mandatory na lamang ang pagsusuot ng face masks sa mga ospital, clinic at iba pang diagnostic centers.

Sinabi pa ni Mayor Rama na ang mga immunocompromised, mga may sakit o may mga sintomas na gaya ng trangkaso ay kailangan pa ring magsuot ng face masks kapag nasa labas ng bahay, pero sila ay pinapayuhang manatili lamang sa bahay kung maaari.

Ang executive order, ayon kay Rama ay resulta umano ng multi-sectoral consultation sa iba’t ibang stakeholders ng syudad.

Samantala, sabi naman ni DOH officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire na hindi sila kinonsulta ng Cebu City Government tungkol sa utos ni Rama na gawing opsyonal ang pagsusuot ng face masks. (CHRISTIAN DALE)
