HINDI na itatapon kung saan-saan at malalayong lugar ang mga informal settlers at hindi na rin mahihilo ang mga mamamayan bago magkaroon ng maayos na bahay sa sandaling maitatag na ang Department of Human Settlemens and Urban Development (DHSU).

Ito ang tiniyak ni House committee on housing chairman Albee Benitez matapos lagdaan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang Republic Act 11201 o ang Department of Human Settlemens and Urban Development Act.

Papalitan ng nasabing departamento ang National Housing Authority (NHA) at pag-iisahin na ang lahat ng mga ahensya na may kaugnayan sa pabahay kaya isang ahensya na lang ang mag-aasikaso sa mga housing loans ng mga taong gustong magkaroon ng sariling bahay.

Sa ngayon ay mayroong pitong ahensya para sa larangan ng pabahay na kinabibilangan ng Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC), Home Development Mutual Fund o Pag-ibig fund, Home Guarantee Corporation, Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board, National Home Mortgage Finance Corporation, Social Housing Finance Corporation at NHA.

“I am thankful to President Duterte for his approval of the Department of Human Settlement and Urban Development Bill. This law shall allow for the unified direction and consilidated effort towards shelter delivery for our fellow Filipinos,” ani Benitez.

Sa ilalim ng nasabing batas, gagamitin na ang mga lupain ng gobyerno na hindi nagagamit upang pagtayuan ng mga pabahay para hindi na maitapon sa malalayong lugar ang mga informal settlers na inaalis sa kanilang lugar.

“The failure of the past administrations housing programs is the focus of relocating informal settllers in remote areas with no access to income and basic services. We should maximize government lands that have been idle for years and use it for Filipino families who need housing that are close to their source of income,” ani Benitez.

Hindi na rin basta-basta magtatayo ng mga housing projects ng gobyerno na hindi kinokonsulta ang mga beneficiaries at kailangang makumpleto muna ang basic service tulad ng koneksyon sa tubig at kuryente bago iwanan.
