TULAD ng inaasahan, tinapyasan na ng Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ng mahigit isang bilyon ang budget ng Office of the Vice President (OVP) sa susunod na taon.

Ito ang kinumpirma ni House appropriations committee chairman Rep. Elizaldy Co ukol sa final draft ng 2025 General Appropriation Bill (GAB) na nagkakahalaga ng P6.352 trillion na siyang ipapasa naman sa Senado para sa hiwalay na bersyon ng mga senador.

Sa kabuuan, umaabot sa P1.3 billion ang tinapyas sa orihinal na P2.037 billion proposed budget ng OVP kaya magkakaroon na lamang ng P733.198 million na pondo si Vice President Sara Duterte sa susunod na taon.

Ayon kay Co, sa P1.3 billion na tinapyas sa OVP, P646.5 million dito ay nilipat sa Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) para sa kanilang Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) program habang ang natitirang P646.5 million ay inilagay naman sa Medical Assistance for Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients (MAIFIP) program ng Department of Health (DOH).

“By eliminating redundant roles, government can save as much as P1.3 billion, which constitutes a significant portion of the OVP’s proposed P2.037 billion budget for 2025. The House believes this amount could be more effectively allocated to existing agencies, enabling them to extend their services to the public more efficiently,” ani Co.

Kabilang sa tinanggal na pondo sa OVP ang pang-renta sa 10 satellite offices at dalawang extension offices sa susunod na taon, tulong pinansyal sa mahihirap na mamamayan na lumalapit umano sa tanggapan ng Pangalawang Pangulo at iba pa.

Sa ulat ng OVP, umaabot sa 1.5 million beneficiaries umano ang kanilang natulungan sa medical, burial at relief program hanggang noong Agosto 2024 subalit iginiit ng mga mambabatas na trabaho ito ng DSWD at DOH.

“Consolidating these responsibilities under the appropriate departments would not only eliminate costs associated with maintaining satellite offices but also streamline service delivery, reducing administrative overlap and minimizing confusion among beneficiaries,” ayon pa sa mambabatas.
