MAY hinala ang mga awtoridad kabilang ang Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) na ang P441 million cash na naharang mula sa 11 suspects sa Mactan-Cebu International Airport nito lamang weekend ay posibleng bahagi ng election-related illegal activities, kabilang na ang vote-buying at money laundering.

“The involvement of multiple foreign nationals strongly suggests the alarming possibility of foreign interference in our sovereign electoral process,” ang sinabi ng AFP.

Tiniyak ng AFP sa mga Pinoy ang kanilang commitment na pangalagaan ang integridad ng democratic institutions at ito’y nakahanda para magbigay ng buong suporta sa nagpapatuloy na masusing imbestigasyon.

“We laud the vigilance and rapid response of the Philippine National Police and other law enforcement agencies, whose actions may have averted a significant threat to our democracy,” ang sinabi pa rin ng militar.

Ang nasabing pera ay nakasilid sa pitong trolley bags at natuklasan sa pagitan ng 11:30 p.m. noong May 9 at 4:14 a.m. noong May 10.

“Security Screening Officer (SSO) Missy Ayessa Cafe, the X-ray operator at the time of the incident, detected an unusual image on the X-ray monitor. This prompted her to call the attention of SSO Rosendo Anoos and an officer from the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Unit. They then discovered that the 7 trolley bags contained bundles of cash,” ang nakasaad sa report ng Office for Transportation Security.

Ang pera ay isasakay sana sa pribadong aircraft flight RP-C9968 pa-Maynila. Ang 11 suspek ay binubuo ng anim na Chinese, isang Malaysian, isang Indonesian, isang Kazakhstani, at dalawang Pinoy.

Dumating ang grupo sakay ng van at di umano’y nagtangkang i-bypass ang standard security protocols.

Wala ni isa man ang nakapagbigay ng balidong dokumentasyon para sa tinangkang ipasok na pera, na isang paglabag sa Seksyon 28 of Comelec Resolution No. 11104, ipinagbabawal ang pagdadala o pagkakaroon ng pera na labis sa P500,000, na may kasamang campaign paraphernalia at/o patunay na ebidensya.

Ang tinatawag na money ban ay epektibo mula May 10 hanggang 12.

“We call on all citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as we work together to safeguard the peaceful and credible conduct of the upcoming elections,” panawagan ng AFP.
